UNDP-GEF Medium Sized Project (MSP) on Sustainable Land Management (SLM)

A UNDP-GEF project on “Capacity building and mainstreaming sustainable land management” wasa three year project (2007-2009) signed on 25th January 2007 and implementedby NSSC since the beginning from February 2007. The total budget of the project was USD 515,000 (USD 500,000 from GEF and USD 15, 000 from UNDP).

Project Objective
To build capacity in Sustainable Land Management (SLM) in appropriate government and civil society institutions and user groups and mainstream SLM into government planning and strategy development in Bhutan.

Project Outcome

  • Completion of a National Action Program (NAP) on land degradation
  • Strengthening human resources and institutional capacities on SLM
  • Mainstreaming and harmonizing SLM into national policies, plans and economic development and environmental frameworks.

Implementation responsibilities
The Project wasexecuted by NSSC and complemented and shared lessons with the WB-GEF project on Sustainable Land Management (SLMP).
