Every year, 17th June is celebrated as the Desertification and Drought Day (DDD) to mark the founding day of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) that was adopted on 17th June 1994. Bhutan ratified and became party to the UNCCD on 23rd August 2003. Since then, Bhutan joins the global community each year in observing the day to promote public awareness of the international efforts to combat desertification, land degradation and drought. The day is a unique moment to remind everyone that reversing land degradation is achievable through problem- solving, strong community involvement and cooperation at all levels. Read More
