A joint team from the Land Management Program and the Soil Microbiology Program under the National Soil Services Center visited the SLM (Sustainable Land Management) intervention sites, including sand vermi-compost sheds, to monitor progress and provide timely feedback to beneficiaries and donors. The visits were carried out in Metakha and Logchina under Chukha Dzongkhag, and Lumby under Samtse Dzongkhag from 6th – 15th August 2025.
Farmers in Metakha have just begun implementing the SLM interventions, although the activities were scheduled for completion by June 2025. They have requested time extension until December 2025. However, vermi-compost production has already started, and the team collected samples for nutrient analysis.
In Logchina, 13 farmers successfully completed orchard basin construction with stones. Some farmers, however, discontinued the interventions, citing challenges such as old trees, lack of proper spacing, and orchards established on steep slopes.
In Lumby, 6 farmers completed orchard basin construction, 4 farmers constructed stone bunds, and 1 farmer established hedgerow plantations.
In both Logchina and Lumby, the team also conducted awareness sessions on the uses of Effective Microorganisms (EM) and demonstrated the activation process of EM solutions.
