Final year students from Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (JNEC) visited the National Soil Services Centre (NSSC) as part of their industrial tour. The visit was designed to provide survey engineering students with practical exposure and help them connect classroom learning with real world applications.
The students were warmly welcomed by the Program Director, who introduced the core functions of the Centre and emphasized the vital importance of soil in agriculture and related fields.
They then attended a presentation by the Program Head of the Soil Survey Program on “Soil Survey and Mapping.” The session highlighted the process of soil survey and mapping, showcased a case study on generating soil maps of Bhutan using digital techniques and explained the significance of soil property maps in agriculture and other allied sectors. The presentation also explored the technologies used in modern soil surveys and provided an overview of Bhutan’s diverse soil types.
After the presentation, the students participated in an interactive Q & A session. They also toured the Soil Museum, where they observed soil profiles from different parts of Bhutan, and concluded their visit by exploring the Soil Monolith collection.
