As part of observing UNCCD Day on 17th June 2024 with the theme “United for land: Our legacy. Our future”, the National Soil Services Centre (NSSC), under Department of Agriculture (DoA), MoAL in collaboration with Dagana Dzongkhag Agriculture Office organized a mass land management campaign program on hedgerows establishment, check-dams construction and farm road stabilization works. The program was organized at Geserling and Lajab Gewog in 5 chiwogs each respectively. In total 35.75 acres of vulnerable dry lands belonging to 135 households of Geserling and 51.18 acres belonging to 165 households of Lajab gewog were brought under SLM measures through hedgerows establishment. The program also comprises of sensitization on SLM to 300 farmers of two gewogs, hands on training on hedgerows establishment, construction of log and stone check-dams in gullies, demonstration on brush layering and other bio engineering techniques and 5 kms farm road stabilization through plantation of Napier grass slips along the vulnerable farm road stretch at Lajab Gewog. The program kick started from 22nd May and successfully completed on 14th June 2024. The campaign program was organized with fund support from Green Climate Fund (GCF) and BTFEC/Adaptation Fund (AF) project.
