Ms. Dema Choki, Agriculture Supervisor II, serving as the Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI), and Mr. Nima Tshering, Agriculture Supervisor I, participated in the AFACI Soil+ International Workshop on Nutrient Budget, Erosion and Soil Health, held from 22–27 June 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. The workshop was jointly organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Global Soil Partnership (GSP), the Land Development Department (LDD) of Thailand and the Asian Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (AFACI) under the Soil+ Phase II Project.
The six-day workshop brought together representatives from AFACI member countries to strengthen technical capacity in nutrient budget assessment, soil erosion mapping, soil health assessment, and the integration of these products into National Soil Information Systems (NSIS). The program included technical presentations, hands-on training sessions, country presentations and a field visit to observe sustainable soil management and erosion control practices.
The workshop provided valuable knowledge and practical skills that will support Bhutan’s soil information system and developing reliable soil information products. The experience gained will contribute to improved soil resource management, evidence-based agricultural planning and the promotion of sustainable land management practices. The workshop also strengthened regional cooperation and facilitated the exchange of knowledge and experiences among participating countries.
