In line with the Green Climate Fund Project Plan Document, the Land Management Program under NSSC mandated with combating land degradation carried out a mass check-dams construction demonstration in all five chiwogs of Phobjikha Gewog. The program was followed by developing SLM Action Plan for scaling up check-dam construction by the communities themselves.
In total 412 farmers (214 male &198 female) participated in the practical training exercise from 9th till 19th September 2024. The farmers agreed to scale up 492 numbers of check-dams spread throughout the Gewog protecting 691 acres of vulnerable farm land and seasonal stream lines. The check-dam construction will be completed by the end of November 2024 and an incentive payment of Nu 1000 to 1500 per dam will be paid from the project fund support.
