Three officials from the Centre attended a training on national soil databases and soil property mapping from 15 to 19 November from 9AM to 12PM GMT+2 (Rome time) organized by GSP/FAO. This training was part of the implementation of the project and aims to support AFACI beneficiary countries in creating/maintaining national soil databases and in soil property mapping using national soil profile databases. At the end of the training, countries are expected to have clear requirements for creating their soil databases, as well as methodologies and tools for producing their national soil property maps. Project countries will also be provided with instructions and timeline for project deliverables.

The training focused on following topics:

  1. Preparation and harmonization of national soil profile database
  2. Preparation of auxiliary datasets to be used to predict selected soil properties
  3. Digital Soil Mapping approaches to produce national gridded maps of basic soil properties and threats
  4. Setting a timeline for deliverables (National Soil Profile Databases, National Gridded Soil Maps)
